Easter Eats
What I'm making, and a list of recipe ideas!
Happy Holy Week everyone! The most special and important week of the year, absolutely a favorite of mine.
I’m sure by now you already have your Easter menu planned, but in the off chance that you’re scrambling to come up with something to cook/serve/bring to Easter dinner, I’ve compiled a list of recipes that might cross something off your list.
We are celebrating Easter at my in-laws and I will be bringing my ‘Bougie’ Party Potatoes and Bacon Green Beans. I brought the Party Potatoes last Easter and thought I’d repeat them again when given my potato assignment. I like to call these ‘Bougie’ Party Potatoes as they’re a bit more elevated than the traditional Southern or Midwest Party Potato recipe (also known as Funeral Potatoes or Cheesy Potatoes, depending on where you live), as I skip the cans of “cream of,” and opt to make a homemade roux instead, followed by a variety of nice cheeses, fresh herbs and a splash of white wine.
The Bacon Green Beans recipe is so easy, it’s can be a great weeknight side veg or a dish served at a large gathering. I brought these to our large, extended-family Christmas celebration and even tripling the recipe, there wasn’t a green bean left in the baking dish. No soggy canned green beans here; the recipe calls for fresh beans and a quick blanche gives them a flavorful crunch.
In need of something a bit more casual for the kids? I love to throw together a ‘charcuterie board’ for the kiddos! It’s easy for them to snack on, doesn’t require utensils or cutting and allows them to nibble amidst the playing, without the adults having to completely stop conversation to help with a sit-down situation.
I’ve listed out some recipes from previous Substack posts, from my very dated website blog and a few Easter-friendly recipes from my A Month of Dinner cookbooks. Whether I’m hosting or attending a gathering, I love to include some appropriately-themed paper goods with my dish, such as cute Easter cocktail napkins in this case, or fun appetizer plates. The good China might be on the table, but it’s always nice to eliminate extra dishes with pretty paper goods! Amazon or stores such as HomeGoods and TJ Maxx have plenty of paper goods to choose from, I also love to find some from Meri Meri or Gatherings by Curated Paperie (this close to Easter, everything’s on sale!).
Wishing you a blessed and joy-filled Holy Week and Easter Sunday! Hallelujah!
